Teen to be sentenced for killing parents and family dog

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A teenager who admitted to fatally stabbing his parents at their home in Winthrop is scheduled to be sentenced today.

Andrew Balcer, 19, is facing up to 55 years in prison as part of a plea deal.

Balcer told a newspaper his parents, Alice and Antonio Balcer. weren't supportive of his transition from male to female.

In a 9-1-1 call played during a court hearing, Balcer, who was 17 at the time, was heard telling police he stabbed his parents to death as well as the family dog on Halloween.

A judge previously ruled that Balcer can be treated as an adult
