Sugarloaf Owners Cited by OSHA Following Employee Death

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (WABI) - The company that owns Sugarloaf Mountain has been cited following the death of an employee earlier this year.

TV5 News learned this after filing a Freedom of Information Act Request.

23-year-old Alexander Witt of Farmington was preparing a competition course on one of the trails in March when he lost his footing and slid down the course.

He was not wearing a helmet.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration found Sugarloaf did not have proper safety policies in place and fined its operators more than 11,000 dollars.

The company now has a helmet policy in place for all employees at all of their resorts.
