Students collect candy for troops

SEARSMONT, Maine. (WABI) - To kick off Veterans Day weekend, Ames Elementary School in Searsmont presented four-hundred pounds of candy to the local VFW.

Students collected the candy which will be sent to troops overseas.

Called the Great Candy Challenge, it's a way for the students to learn to give back.

Students also made cards to give to veterans and to send to active troops.

"It's an opportunity for our students to get the opportunity to give back. Trick-or-Treating is wonderful, but to be able to give back to our military is even better for them."

This is the seventh year they have participated in the Great Candy Challenge.
