FARMINGTON, Maine (WABI) - The State has rested its case against James Sweeney, 58, of Jay.

He's on trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Wendy Douglas, 51, in July 2017.

Sweeney entered an insanity plea, claiming he's not criminally responsible.

Thursday, Maine's former Deputy Chief Medical Examiner testified.

She did the autopsy on Douglas and said the cause of death was blunt force head injuries.

She said there were at least three impacts to the head, and the skull was fractured.

The trial continues with defense witnesses Friday.
