South Thomaston Woman Charged with Manslaughter in Deadly Crash Last Year

SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine (WABI) - A 19-year-old woman from South Thomason is charged with manslaughter in connection with a car crash last year that killed one of her passengers.

Kelsey Campbell was arrested Tuesday.

She's also charged with aggravated criminal OUI and operating beyond license conditions or restrictions.

21-year-old Zachary Elwell of St. George died in May.

Authorities say Campbell was speeding on Route 131 in South Thomaston just before the crash and had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Elwell was thrown out of the car when it went off the road, hit some trees and rolled over several times.

Another passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
