Snow in the forecast for Tuesday afternoon

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Total accumulations will range from 1”-3” along the coast before any changeover, 2”-5” for most of the remainder of the state with some slightly higher amounts of 4”-7” possible over parts of Oxford, Franklin and Somerset Counties.

Snow will develop from west to east across the state during the mid-late afternoon hours as low pressure approaches from the Great Lakes region. With the system expected to pass just north of the state, it looks like some warmer air will move into southern and coastal areas allowing the snow to mix with or even change to rain for a time during the evening hours. Precipitation will remain in the form of all snow inland. Precipitation will wind down from west to east across the state near or shortly after midnight tonight followed by partial clearing late. Total accumulations will range from 1”-3” along the coast before any changeover, 2”-5” for most of the remainder of the state with some slightly higher amounts of 4”-7” possible over parts of Oxford, Franklin and Somerset Counties. Low temperatures tonight will drop to the 20s to near 30°.

Wednesday looks decent with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid-20s to mid-30s. A cold front will move through Wednesday afternoon followed by a shot of arctic air moving in Wednesday night. This will make for a very cold day Thursday despite a good deal of sunshine. Thursday will feature partly to mostly sunny skies with temperatures only reaching the single numbers and teens for highs. High pressure will bring us a nice day Friday with sunshine and highs in the 20s. Temperatures will moderate this weekend with highs getting back to the 30s to near 40°. Expect a dry weekend with some sunshine both days.

Rest of Today: Mostly cloudy. Snow developing mid-late afternoon. Snow will mix with or change to rain over southern and coastal areas during the evening. Highs between 26°-36°. Light wind will become southeast 5-15 MPH with higher gusts to around 30 MPH possible, especially along the coast.

Tonight: Snow inland, mix and rain coast. Precipitation tapering off near or shortly after midnight. Lows in the 20s. Variable wind 5-10 MPH.

Wednesday: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs between 27°-37°. West/northwest wind 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH possible.

Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny and frigid. Highs in the mid-single to near 10° north and low to mid-teens elsewhere.

Friday: Partly to mostly sunny. Cold with highs in the 20s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Not as cold with highs in the 30s to near 40°.
