(WAGM) - Senator Susan Collins says there's no reason the federal government should be shut down.
She's talking with colleagues on both sides of the aisle as well as White House officials.
Senator Collins is very anxious to get government reopened, not just for people who work for the agencies affected but also for those who use their services.
"We need to find a compromise that doesn't sacrifice the goal of stronger border security and yet gets people back to work. A government shutdown should not be used as a political weapon and that's what's happened here," Collins said.
Today is the 19th day of the government shutdown.
