BRUNSWICK, Maine (WABI) Incumbent U.S. Senator Angus King declared victory at midnight on Tuesday.

He provided this statement to the people of Maine:
"Serving as your governor and now as your senator has been the honor of a lifetime. Maine people have an ethic of hard work, a knack for common sense, and an unbreakable spirit. It is these qualities that I aim to reflect each day in my work in Washington. Together, we’ve accomplished so much for Maine, and I am determined to continue work for the people across our state – men and women, young and old, from York to Aroostook and everywhere in between – so we help our communities and provide results for the state we love. I congratulate my opponents on their hard work throughout this campaign, and to wish the best to them and their families moving forward. Our political differences should never stop us from listening, finding common ground, and working together. Today, and every day, we are all Americans. In the days ahead, it is essential we work to heal our political wounds and come together as a country to support one another, lend a hand to our neighbors, and remember America’s highest ideals of unity and understanding. Let’s build on the good.”
