School Bus Fire Reduces I-95 South in Orono to One Lane
All students and staff are safe after a Hermon school bus caught fire on I-95 in Orono.
The call came in around 1:30 Wednesday.
The school bus was carrying Hermon High School staff and students from UMaine back to the high school.
Officials say the fire was contained to the front of the bus.
The bus driver was treated for smoke inhalation on the scene.
Officials say other drivers stopped to help.
Captain Joel Sides of Orono Fire Department says, "On arrival we had a couple of passers-by with small extinguishers trying to extinguish a fire that was confined to the engine compartment of the bus...all the kids were evacuated prior to our arrival."
The southbound side of I-95 was reduced to one lane for a little over an hour.
