BUCKSPORT, Maine. (WABI) - Runners from across the state hit the pavement from Prospect to Bucksport.

The race is called Bridge the Gap and starts at Fort Knox. Folks then run across the Penobscot Narrows Bridge into Bucksport.

The event is in its 6th year.

Folks participated in two races, a 3 mile race and a 10 mile race.

Runners say this race is strictly about coming together as a community and supporting each other.

"Bucksport is such a great town, and everyone here is so friendly and it's just a beautiful course and it's really nice to see people come out and supporting the town and the runners"

"Nobody cares about who voted for who, where you work, where you go, where you live, what you do, where your kids go to school. Anything. It's just everybody's here to have a good time."

Organizers tell us that more than 600 people attended today's race.
