The brutally cold temperatures didn't keep die-hard runners from one of the biggest New Year's Eve events in Bangor.

Runners laced up their shoes to ring in the new year at the Epic 5K Finale.

This is the 12th year for the race.

The race also marks the first race of the season for the sub-5 track club, which is a local running group.

Brad Ryder, owner of Epic Sports in downtown Bangor says the extra help getting ready for the race, especially in the cold weather, goes a long way.

"It is a lot of work and we do appreciate all the sponsors that help us out, as well as the volunteers. But, at the end, no injuries and everybody has a good run, that's the important thing," said Ryder.

The overall champion today was Erik McCarthy of Old Town.

Over 100 runners participated.
