A man who broke into an 84-year-old woman's home in Sidney and was shot by her son has been indicted by a grand jury.
22-year-old Dreaquan Foster of Providence, Rhode Island faces a slew of charges including elevated aggravated assault, aggravated criminal mischief and burglary.
He was formally charged Thursday by a Kennebec County grand jury.
Police say in March Foster knocked on Audrey Hewitt's door asking to use the phone.
She told him to go next door to her son's house, but police say Foster kicked in the door instead.
Hewitt ran to the bedroom and called her son, Eric Hewitt, who came over and confronted Foster.
Police say Foster hit him on the head with the hammer, the two struggled and Eric Hewitt shot Foster.
Authorities say no charges will be filed against Eric Hewitt.
