UPDATE: Police investigating after two bodies found in Augusta home
Police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found at an Augusta apartment Monday afternoon.
The bodies were discovered around 1:30 p.m. while the Augusta Police Department performed a welfare check at a residence on Northern Avenue.
After knocking on the apartment door, we're told officers heard a gunshot from inside the apartment.
When officials entered, they found a deceased male. A deceased female was then located in a separate room.
Detectives from Augusta police and Maine State police will be on scene throughout the night Monday.
State Police evidence technicians will also work inside the apartment.
A spokesperson for Maine State Police says there is no threat to the public.
The medical examiner will work to identify the bodies.
