Police say speed appears to be a factor in a crash in Orland that sent two Maine Maritime Academy students to a hospital Wednesday night.

Police were called to the Castine Road around 6:30.

Authorities say 20-year-old Riley Jorgenson of Vienna, Virginia was traveling north when he lost control and hit a tree.

His passenger, 20-year-old Cole McDaniel of Eliot suffered a head injury and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Jorgenson was also taken to a hospital to be checked out.

People say both men were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
