Orono community coming together to help family displaced by fire

ORONO, Maine (WABI) - An Orono family has been displaced from their home since a fire on Saturday.

Members of the Orono Firefighters Association and Orono University Credit Union are working to help them.

We're told they were able to get out of the home thanks to smoke detectors.

Fire damaged their home and critical medical equipment for family members.

They're temporarily living in a specialized facility.

We spoke with the president of the Orono firefighters association who tells us they want to do what they can to help this family get back on their feet.

"Especially with winter coming in and the holidays and this family being misplaced and the financial burden that can come from having medical bills. In a situation like this, this family is going to have to get back on their feet and a couple of bucks here and there will help make a difference and it's the number of the people that put in that will really add up at the end," said Aaron Jellison, President of the Orono Firefighters Association.

To donate you can drop cash or checks off at the Orono University Credit Union on Main Street.

Checks can be made payable to the Orono Firefighters Association.
