A Franklin man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Route 1A in Ellsworth.

Two other people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

According to Ellsworth Police, the drivers of a pick-up and box truck collided head on.

67-year old Warren Higgins was driving the pick-up. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

57-year old Michael Moore of Brewer was driving the box truck. He and his passenger, 53-year old Carl Condon of Troy was walking around after the crash.

Ellsworth's Police Chief Glenn Moshier, says heavy rain was likely a factor, but they don't know yet what caused the crash.

He says that stretch of road is being repaved and has been ground down.

"I know my officers and myself were experiencing some difficult travel on the way to the crash scene, so particularly on this stretch of road where the milling has been done, it's absolutely imperative that people use extra caution with this heavy rain," said Moshier.

Traffic was backed up for about five hours while the scene was being processed and cleared.

The crash is still under investigation.
