NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (WABI) - The Norridgewock Board of Selectmen issued a proclamation declaring April 25th of each year to be Corporal Eugene Cole Day.

In a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, town officials stated that "This day shall be a day recognized in the Town of Norridgewock by performing good works, service to the community, and selfless acts."

Norridgewock is now calling on communities across the county, state, and nation to join them in issuing similar proclamations in honor of Corporal Cole.

To further honor Cole, the Somerset County Sheriff's Office said legislation has been submitted to rename the Norridgewock Bridge over the Kennebec River the “Corporal Eugene Cole Memorial Bridge.”

Cole was killed in the line of duty April 25th. Nearly 4,000 people turned out for his funeral services earlier this month in Bangor.
