Nordic Aquafarms working with Belfast city officials to preserve land

BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - The company that wants to build a land based salmon farm in Belfast is looking to protect as large portion of land.

Nordic Aquafarms has an agreement with Belfast's Water District to preserve about 80 acres of undeveloped land surrounding the Little River Upper Reservoir.

This deal is anticipated to go through if the aquaculture company gets all the permits they need to build the salmon farm.

Preliminary plans allow for the city to buy the land at a reduced cost from the water district with money donated by Nordic Aquafarms.

The ultimate goal is for the property to be transferred to a land trust.
