New business in Orrington focuses on mind and body

ORRINGTON, Maine (WABI) - A new business in Orrington is helping folks get better, feel better, and be better.

"We have a wellness center and a fitness studio," said Jane Arey, co-owner of Twinsfeather. "And a wine and gift shop we offer and artisans are here sharing their passions and what they create. So, we have a little bit of everything for everyone which is the unexpected," said Joan West of Twinsfeather in Orrington.

The former owner of Spectacular Event Center in Bangor and her twin sister have taken their love of wellness and fitness and have turned it into a full-time business.

Jane Arey and Joan West opened Twinsfeather in Orrington last summer.

Their new company offers a relaxing, energizing, and detoxing place for their customers.

Part of that includes a fitness and wellness center that offers the Gyrotonic Method.

"It's an exercise movement system that helps the body gain space the spine, more flexibility and range of motion in the body, and more mobility throughout the joints," said West. "We don't move in a rotational way today as we live and move so, this really helps the body get back to what it knows what to do and how to move, and we help people unlock their bodies."

The sisters are the only ones trained in it in the state and they say the sessions are designed to take the body beyond its current limitations.

"If you can sit on a chair and move your body, you can do this. You can get empowered from it and become stronger and get your joints and everything loosened up and feeling better.," said Arey.

Joan had her own wellness center when she was living in Georgia that offered the Gyrotonic method to the community there.

Once Jane saw the progress her sister had made, she knew she had to try it herself.

"I pursued and say what if we do this together? So, we've both been trained now in the Gyrokinesis which is the share and stool mat, and she is the Gyrotonic equipment based trainer."

With their multiple services and exclusive Gyrotonic Method Training Center, they say it's easy to find something you could be looking for.

"Come in and let us give you a tour and experience the space and learn more about what we have to offer, then you get to decide if you'd like to be a part of it or not," said West.

Twinsfeather is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday's from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
