HALLOWELL, Maine. (WABI) A 225-year-old house in Hallowell may be on the move soon.
Negotiations are being finalized to relocate the Dummer house from Dummer's Lane to the corner of Second and Central streets.
City Manager Nate Rudy says the home's owner Linda Bean wants the structure moved to a more prominent location.
Rudy says the move would make room for a new downtown parking lot.
We're told the house is the oldest wooden structure in the city and is so well-built that moving it intact, while challenging, is possible.
"We would love to have the house moved and preliminary construction on the parking area started this season. So we're running low on time but it still can be done and we've got a good team assembled. So we feel like it's ambitious, but not impossible," said Rudy.
City council will make the final decision to move the house once negotiations are finalized.
