EDDINGTON, Maine (WABI) - Multiple departments responded to the scene of a blaze in Eddington Tuesday night that destroyed a home.
Crews were called in to fight the fire on Meadow Lane around 8:30.
Officials say the homeowner called it in - initially saying he was trapped inside.
By the time firefighters arrived on scene he was able to get out of the house, but the fire damage was too much to save the home.
The man wasn't hurt.
Eddington's Fire Chief said that one of the biggest obstacles they faced was getting enough water to the fire.
"Our biggest challenge aside from the cold temperatures is manpower and water," said Chief James Ellis. "This is a nice subdivision, but again it's a rural water supply we were using tankers to bring water from a hydrant on Route 178 almost to the Route 9 intersection."
One firefighter had to to be taken to the hospital after slipping and falling on the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
