Mud season causes closure of carriage roads in Acadia National Park

BAR HARBOR, Maine (WABI) - Acadia National Park is taking steps to protect carriage roads.

The roads will be closed indefinitely to all users until the roads dry out and firm up enough to prevent damage to their gravel surface.

Starting April 12th, park rangers will begin to barricade parking lots associated with carriage roads to notify the public.

The hiking trails and unpaved roads are open to walkers, hikers, and bikers at this point, but will remain closed to vehicles until May 15th.

For more details call the park at 207-288-3338.
