Motorcyclist critically injured in Ellsworth crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured when he struck a car that was stopped at an intersection in Ellsworth on Saturday afternoon.

Police say 31 year old Matthew Murphy of West Enfield was thrown from his bike when he hit the rear of the car.

Driving the car was 59 year old Dawn Curtis from Lamoine who was stopped to make a left hand turn from Route 1A on to the Red Bridge Road.

Police tell us that Murphy was not wearing helmet

31 year old Paul Heath of Howland had been traveling behind Murphy on a separate motorcycle but avoided the crash by laying his bike down in the road.

Curtis was not injured.

Heath was taken to the hospital, suffering non-life threatening injuries.
