Police said the body of a missing diver was found Tuesday afternoon near Nubble Lighthouse in York.

The Maine Marine Patrol said Walter Fabian, 67 of Nashua, New Hampshire, had gone diving with a friend when the two became separated after surfacing.

The friend swam to shore, and after not being able to locate Fabian, called for help.

Lifeguards found Fabian on the northeast shore of Cape Neddick near Nubble Lighthouse.

First responders tried to revive him but were unsuccessful. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for an autopsy.

The Coast Guard sent a helicopter from Cape Cod and a vessel from Portsmouth to help with the search.

Tuesday's search was in the same area where a diver had to be rescued on Monday. Police said there was another incident involving a diver last week.

Police said currents have been strong in that area.

They have temporarily closed the area to diving because of the recent incidents.
