After years of neglect the Matagamon Dam will get a facelift next month.
The people behind the work expressed their gratitude to the people who made it financially feasible.
Members of the Matagamon Lake Association went to the meeting of the Penobscot County Commissioners to thank them for a $100,000 grant.
The money will be used to fix piers upstream on the east branch of the Penobscot River, and to fix the concrete surfaces, and the walls below the normal water line.
"This funding will allow us to do necessary repairs and upkeep for the dam which is like anything else it has to have work done on it and in a timely manner and that's what we're trying to accomplish."
The dam was built in 1940, and has had some maintenance done since then.
The planned repairs are based on an engineering study done five years ago and will cost $128,000.
