UPDATE: Man taken into custody following police standoff in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT, Maine (WABI) - We now know the name of the man accused of creating a standoff in Bucksport.

Police say 57-year-old William Benjamin is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and could face more charges.

Police were called to a home on Route 1 yesterday morning for a well-being check.

They say when officers arrived Benjamin threatened to use an explosive.

A woman was removed from the house and the state police tactical team was called in.

A section of Route 1 was closed off.

Homes and businesses were evacuated.

Benjamin was taken to a hospital to be evaluated

"The strategy in any event like this is number one, is for the safety of the person we are dealing with and we want a safe ending to the situation for everyone including the subject we are dealing with and all law enforcement involved, and the citizens in the community," said Bucksport Police Chief, Sean Geagan.

Benjamin was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
