BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Six thousand and eleven, that's how many challenge coins line the walls of greeter hall at the Bangor International Airport.
The Maine Troop Greeters are on a mission to research and share the history behind each of these coins.
All of them were donated to the greeters and each has a unique story.
A team of volunteer researchers have been looking for details about each coin, its unit or the people who earned them.
Allison Hernandez, a volunteer with Maine Troop Greeters says, "Wednesday will be our kickoff of our coin of the week feature on Facebook page. What we're going to do is feature a front and back picture of a coin and a brief history of what we have and hopefully get more information about it or just share some of the information that we have."
All of the information collected about the coins is entered into a database that will be put online.
People will be able to search for a specific coin online or through kiosks located in greeters hall.
