PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) Two proposals to bring a new Amazon headquarters to Maine have been ruled out, according to the company.
The company narrowed the list of cities for the company's second HQ to 20, including Boston, New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Austin, Atlanta and Miami.
"Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity,” Holly Sullivan, of Amazon, said in a news release. “Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.”
Amazon is in the process of a nationwide search for what it calls “HQ2,” or its second headquarters, which could bring up to 50,000 jobs wherever it lands.
The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority was making a bid to bring Amazon to Brunswick.
The town of Scarborough was also looking to host the new headquarters.
In all, more than 200 bids were submitted, the company said Thursday.
