Maine Red Cross Volunteers Make Their Way Down to Texas

Portland, Maine (WMTW) About a half dozen volunteers from the Red Cross in Portland are making their way to Texas.

During the next day or two, three emergency response vans will leave, stocked with food, water, and other disaster supplies.

It should take about four days to get there.

In the meantime, one Maine Volunteer has already arrived, only to become a flood victim herself.

Darlene Helm says she got trapped inside a hotel near Houston.

"We got up and there's like over a foot and half of water across the whole first floor of the hotel. Our parking lot had water up to their wheels so that really put us in a pickle."

Helm says they've moved to a nearby school, which is being set up as a shelter.

They expect hundreds to spend the next few days there.
