BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Local Knights of Columbus hosted a Bowl-a-Thon at the Family Fun Bowling center in Bangor Saturday.

All proceeds went to the Shepard's Godparents Home - a home for young pregnant women in crisis.

Bowlers were encouraged to compete for a handful of gift card prizes, while A 50/50 raffle gave event goers another chance to win some cash.

Organizers say they were happy to have fun while supporting such an important organization.

"We really appreciate the support of the Knights of Columbus, and they've helped our mission in other ways as well. They come and they see what we're doing there and they get behind us." commented Barbara Ford, Executive Director of Shepard Godparent Home Ministries.

"Last year we had 25 bowlers, and this is our second try. we're up to 50 or 60 now." said co-organizer John Newcomb Sr.

Co-organizer Keith Forbes added, "It's a wide mix and we're getting to know a lot more people as we go on but this is a great event."

John and Keith say that they want this to remain an annual event as long as possible.
