WASHINGTON, D.C. (WABI) - Students, teachers, and officers prevent school violence. The STOP Act has been introduced in Congress by Senators Susan Collins and Angus King.

The legislation would fund school security improvements and invest in early intervention and prevention programs to stop school violence before it happens.

It would also authorize the Department of Justice to make grants to fund these initiatives. The bill asks for $78 million for 2018 and $100 million annually for the next ten years.
