The legal age to buy tobacco products in Maine has changed to 21.
The new law also applies to electronic cigarettes.
Anyone who reaches the age of 18 before today is considered grandfathered into this new law.
When the law passed, Maine was just the fourth state in the nation to raise the tobacco age.
Governor Lepage vetoed the legislation last year saying young adults shouldn't go to war or vote if they can't buy cigarettes when they're 18, but the legislature overrode that veto.
