BREWER, Maine (WABI) - Only a shell of a building is left after a fire wiped out an under-construction restaurant in Brewer.
Multiple fire departments were called to South Main Street Friday to the future home of the Whiskey River Smoke House.
While crews were on scene, the roof burst into flames and eventually collapsed.
Officials say there was no one in the building at the time of the fire.
"We got a call at 4:49 p.m., of a structure fire at 95 South Main Street. Crews got here, it was fully involved. At this point we're just extinguishing everything and trying to investigate later. Find out what the point of origin was, what caused the fire," said Brewer Public Safety Director, Jason Moffitt.
Brewer Police will investigate along with the Maine Fire Marshal's Office.
The restaurant was scheduled to open in the next few weeks.
