A national cemetery will be located in Washington County thanks to a donation by Worcester holdings.

The company is donating more than six acres of land to establish a national cemetery near Machias.

It will serve more than 9,000 veterans, their spouses, and eligible family members who live within a 75 mile radius of the site.

Founder of Worcester Wreath Company, Morrill Worcester, says this has been in the works for a couple years, beginning with a visit from the VA.

"We would like to be considered as a site for a national cemetery right here and they said, well if you've got some places in mind, why don't you pick out three places. The first place we went to when they got back here, the first place we came to was this site right here."

The new cemetery will become the second VA national cemetery in Maine.
