VERONA ISLAND, Maine (WABI) - The Bucksmill's Rod and Gun Club hosted a family fun field day on Verona Island, where children were taught all about outdoor activities ranging from archery to fly tying.

There were thirteen booths on hand to learn all about useful outdoor skills.

Organizers say it's a great way to get kids outside and learning.

Roger Greene, one of the organizers had this to say, “Today's events are put on by the Bucksmill's Rod & Gun club in cooperation with the Penobscot Bay and Rod club. It's designed to introduce children to the great outdoors and to teach them some of the skills, or at least get them interested in some of the skills that might become a lifelong passion for them."

"We put on this event today to get kids involved, get outside and get them involved in some of the outdoor activities like fly rod fishing, fly tying, atving, map and compass, archery, and gun safety." Said Nicole Dyer the club secretary.”

The event was free.

Those in attendance were already looking forward to future events, which will be posted on their Facebook page.
