IHOP representative says there are no plans to build in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Earlier this week, Bangor's planning board voted to allow an IHOP to be developed here, but a spokesperson for the restaurant chain says that's news to them.

A project engineer told the board about plans to redevelop the Rodeway Inn on Odlin Road and to add a restaurant, which would be an IHOP.

But, a spokeswoman for IHOP says the franchisee who owns the development rights for this area has no plan to open a restaurant at this time.

"Part of that site plan does include for a detached 4,800 square foot restaurant space. We would like to have a nationally recognized franchised restaurant in there. We do not have anything under contract at this time. I think some of the confusion came because we do have another one of our hotels located in Augusta, which does have an attached IHOP restaurant," said Christina Bustard, Regional Representative for Giri Hotel Management.

Christina Bustard, a Regional Representative for Giri Hotel Management says the site plan has been shown to a developer of IHOP, but that is as far as it has gone at this time.

We're told the next step is due diligence for construction to redevelop the Rodeway Inn.
