DEXTER, Maine (AP) - It's not the Fourth of July weekend and it's not Coney Island. But hotdogs are going to be consumed.
A hotdog-eating contest on Saturday in Dexter, Maine, is one of the highlights of the fourth annual Maine Red Hot Dog Festival.
Unlike Coney Island's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, the stars of this show are made-in-Maine W.A. Bean hot dogs. The hotdogs, which are sometimes called "red snappers" because of their color, are a summertime staple for outdoor grilling across Maine.
Other events include a pie-eating contest, a 5-K "bun run" and "red hot" live entertainment. The festival serves as a fundraiser for the Dexter Revitalization Committee.
