Governor Questioning Attorney General's Authority Over Trust Fund

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine's attorney general says Governor LePage unlawfully transferred over 10-million dollars out of Maine's Consumer Protection Trust Fund.

LePage says he directed the State Controller to make the transfer.

The governor says he's concerned Attorney General Janet Mills can spend the millions of dollars from court settlements without legislative or executive oversight, which is not allowed by Maine's Constitution.

But Mills said LePage lacked legal authority for the transfer.

She says the fund is now overdrawn in violation of the law, a court order and the Maine Constitution.
