Founder for Effort to Create Third Political Party Visits Maine to Rally Supporters

PORTLAND, Maine (WABI) - The founder of an effort to create a third political party is meeting with Mainers Wednesday night.

Nick Brana is the head of Movement for a People's Party.

The organization was born out of the 2016 presidential election.

Brana was the National Political Outreach Coordinator for Democrat Bernie Sanders.

He and other supporters found frustration and gridlock when it came to trying to reform the party within.

So they decided to work from the outside and create a new party.

Brana's coming to Portland for the first meeting of Maine supporters.

"We're building, first and foremost, in states like Maine that we think will lead the way in this political revolution and then building up nationally across the country to have a major, nationally-viable, independent party that actually represents the people, that actually bases its perspective on what the people think."

The meeting's set for Wednesday, February 7th at 6:30 p.m. at Portland City Hall.
