Former state lawmaker accused of stealing millions takes the stand

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - More testimony Monday in the trial of a former state lawmaker from Frankfort accused of stealing as much as $3 million.

53-year-old Robert Lindell took the stand in his own defense.

He's accused of stealing money from two elderly women and tax evasion.

Monday he was questioned about accounts he managed.

Lindell claims he used funds from a trust to pay for personal things like credit card payments and his children's tuition.

But, he says he was able to do so because he transferred his own assets into the accounts.

The defense brought up artwork and wine Lindell claims to have transferred ownership of to the trusts.

He says he did not steal from the two women but should have done a better job keeping things separated instead of co-mingling assets.

The trial continues Tuesday.
