LIMESTONE, Maine (WAGM) - The former gymnasium at the old Loring Air Force Base could be transformed as a business by next year, according to the Loring Development Authority.
During a meeting yesterday, officials discussed re-purposing the structure, which is located between job corps housing and their classroom buildings.
Of concern is a path that currently runs across the property that job corps students use to go from the dorms to classes.
"We have a potential occupant of that building to operate a light manufacturing operation there," said Loring Development Authority President and CEO Carl Flora. "That as you heard from the meeting, there is some dilemmas in terms of, you know, how you deal with some security questions and some, you know, pedestrian-vehicle traffic conflicts and things like that."
Flora thinks they have a fairly good handle on it.
He says they'll cautiously move forward and hopefully put a deal together that satisfies all parties involved.
