Former Bangor teacher sentenced to 9 months for secretly filming women

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A former Bangor teacher has been sentenced for secretly filming up women’s skirts.

Benjamin Emmott will serve 9 months in prison after a judge rejected his original plea bargain with the District Attorney’s Office.

He will also be registered as a sex offender for 10 years.

The state said Emmott used his camera phone to take thousands of pictures and videos in schools, stores, and other locations.

A timestamp on a video indicated that this started as far back as 2008.

The D-A’s office says most of the victims appear to be over the age of 18, but some could have been younger.

Emmott’s original plea agreement had him going to jail for 6 months.

“I think that the judge listened very carefully to the impact this crime had had on the two victims that chose to speak and I think the judge considered those very, very carefully in rejecting the plea agreement that had been placed before her,” said Assistant District Attorney Marianne Lynch.

Emmott will begin his sentence later this month.
