Five Men Arrested After Shooting Incident in Calais Appear in Court

ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) Five men arrested in connection with a shooting and high speed chase in Calais went before a judge Friday.

They're being held at the Washington County Jail in Machais.

They spoke to the judge in Ellsworth via video.

None of them entered pleas.

They are all being held on $250,000 cash bail...

Four of them from the Bronx, New York.

Marcos Luis Figueroa-Frias, 21, Saul Figueroa, 20, Elmer Frias, 21, and Jordan Rodriguez, 24, have been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking.

Stephen Perkins, 27, of Baileyville is charged with the same crimes and also drug possession.

Authorities say they found cocaine and possibly heroin in one of his body cavities.

"It's tough when you have multiple people in a vehicle and you don't have any good you know definitive witness as to what exactly happened so we have to proceed at this point on an accomplice-liability theory and then hopefully with more investigation we'll figure out what really happened," says Matthew Foster, district attorney.

Police say a man reported two of the men shot at him near the Calais Motor Inn.

He wasn't hit.

They fled the scene then were pulled over nearby. Perkins was driving and tried to run but was arrested.

A passenger took the wheel and drove off sending police on a chase to Brookton.

That's where the other four were eventually found and arrested.
