HAMPDEN, Maine (WABI) A fire tore through a home in Hampden Wednesday morning.
Authorities say you could see the smoke flume from the fire as far as three miles away.
When they arrived on scene at 9:30 this morning the home on Carmel Road South was fully engulfed.
No one was home at the time.
Several departments assisted but officials say the location made response difficult.
Lt. Dan Pugsley of the Hampden Fire Department says, "We rely typically on tanker shuttle water operations and when we go through the water we have we have to wait on scene for more...We have a pretty good response plan set up that would allow us to have water here quickly but it's during the day, during the week and a lot of the towns that we rely on, rely on volunteer or call members that may not be at the station so our response is delayed a little bit."
Officials say that the home is a total loss.
A cause has not yet been determined.
