A fire broke out around 5 a.m. Saturday on Malta Street destroying an apartment building.

Firefighters said one person was injured and taken to a hospital.

"Some had jumped out windows, this is a 12 unit apartment complex so they spent the bulk of their initial arrival here making sure everybody was out," Chief Roger Audette, Augusta Fire Department.

The Red Cross is helping those impacted by the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
