UPDATE: Fatal Accident in Lincoln Shuts down Route 2

The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a fatal accident on Route 2.

50-year-old Jeffery Ludden of Howland was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car near Drinkwater's.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital while Route 2 was closed.

Police are cautioning drivers to be mindful of others during the summer season.

"One of the things is to pay attention to other vehicles, do defense driving," said Daniel Summers, Director of Lincoln Public Safety. "Just be aware that traffic is a little bit more than normal, it is summer and we do have homecoming here. That increases our population by quite a lot."

A reconstruction team is working to determine the cause of the accident.
