BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - As the tourism and hospitality industry continues to expand in Maine, Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor is launching a new program to help people in the field grow, too.
EMCC will offer a certificate program in Hospitality & Tourism Management beginning in the Fall of 2018. Students enrolled in Hospitality & Tourism Management courses will be eligible to earn badges upon completion. Students must demonstrate mastery of skills as well as knowledge and competencies, evaluated through assessments, demonstrations, and/or industry certifications. This stackable credentialing model is the first of its kind offered at EMCC, and provides students with a flexible, dynamic learning experience.
The Hospitality & Tourism Management program will help students prepare for a career in the hospitality industry, including hotels, resorts, cruise lines, airlines, tourism, special events, and more. Badges will be offered in the following courses: Principles of Hospitality, Lodging Management, Beverage Controls, Hospitality Law, Planning & Development in Tourism, Meetings & Convention Management, and Hospitality Division Management. The program will be under the leadership of longtime EMCC faculty member Mark Janicki, who has 30 years of experience as a post-secondary educator, executive chef, personal chef, and caterer.
