A convicted murderer has died at the Maine State Prison.

Prison officials say 60-year-old Joseph Dumas from Prentiss died Thursday night.

Dumas was sentenced to 30 years for the 2007 shooting death of his best friend, Mario Litterio.

Dumas claimed he was in a cocaine-induced psychosis at the time.

This is the third death at the prison this month. According to the Medical Examiner's Office, Stephen Burton died on Dec. 3 of cancer. The cause of Robert Rossignol's Dec. 5th death is pending further studies.
