Competent or not? Carrillo hearing begins Monday

STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine (WABI) - A competency hearing in the case of the mother accused of beating to death her 10-year-old daughter in Stockton Springs starts Monday at the Waldo County Courthouse.

Jury selection in the murder trial of 34-year-old Sharon Carrillo is scheduled for the following day.

In February of last year, Carrillo was charged with the murder of Marissa Kennedy. The girl was found dead in the home where she lived with her mother and step-father, Julio Carrillo.

In July, Julio Carrillo pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 55 years behind bars.

Opening statements in Sharon Carrillo's trial are expected start as soon as a jury as picked.
