BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - Republicans have retained control of the U.S. Senate while Democrats have taken control of the House.
That's how Washington will look after the highly anticipated mid-term elections.
We spoke with Senator Susan Collins Wednesday in Belfast.
Collins says the change may result in unexpected opportunities since both parties will have to work together and find common ground to get anything done.
"I think this will actually present an opportunity for people like me who try to bring people together and cross party lines."
Collins says she'll be moving up in seniority in the Senate to 12th in leadership.
She also told us she called newly-elected governor Janet Mills this morning to congratulate her.
